My flash collection ‘The Neverlands’ has been out in the world for almost two months and I’m delighted with its reception thus far. Copies have been sent all over the UK, but also to Canada, the United States, Italy, Germany, Greece, and even Australia. Readers have been in touch via email and Twitter to tell me how much they loved Mammy and Nuala. Some have even posted reviews on Amazon UK and Goodreads. Thank you! If you’ve enjoyed ‘The Neverlands,’ I’d be grateful if you could leave a review.
Yesterday, Smokelong Quarterly, (an online literary magazine that’s a dream publication of mine) posted a review of ‘The Neverlands’ that said:
Monaghan draws these characters and their hardscrabble existence with a skilled hand, taking care to grant readers intermittent moments of dark humor and optimism. This slim pamphlet contains unblinking truths about families, motherhood, childhood, poverty, and manages to make readers feel as though they’ve read an epic novel about Nuala and Mammy in just a handful of words.
In other news, I will be part of a panel on ‘Publishing With An Indie Press’ at the Flash Fiction Festival at the end of June and will talk about my experience (all good!) with my publisher V.Press. Then on 14 October I’ll be one of the Guest Features at the Loose Muse, in Winchester, reading from ‘The Neverlands.’
