OTHER WRITING

My short fiction and creative non-fiction are widely published and anthologized. I have won or placed in various competitions and been nominated multiple times for the Pushcart Prize, Best Small Fiction & Best Microfiction. One of my flash was selected for Best British and Irish Flash Fiction 2018-19. Below are links to a few short pieces, which you can read by clicking on the title. Or scroll down to watch a recording of me reading my funny flash ‘And We Lived Happily Ever After’ about Disney princesses escaping disappointing marriages. It was selected as the title piece for the 2022 National Flash Fiction Day anthology. At the very bottom of this webpage there are also links to a few articles I’ve written.

Dark Horse

Published in The Drabble way back in 2017, this remains one of my favourite micros.

‘It was agreed that each maiden could take one tea chest on the voyage oversea.’

Blue Moon

Short and sweet, this mother and baby micro was published in EllipsisZine in July, 2021. I sometimes use the final line to chivvy myself along.

‘What if we went outside and the sleek dark night stroked your face and choked your screams, and you stopped flailing?

Pyjama Day

My first fashion faux pas immortalized in this humorous piece published in the July/August 2022 print edition of Readers Digest Canada, but also available online.

‘Imagine, if you will, a freckled, buck-toothed demoiselle of the groovy 1970s. I yearned for something more than my sister’s hand-me-down jeans and T-shirts. Enter the maxi dress.’
